Capital load for a monarch? (8)
I believe the answer is:
kingston
'capital' is the definition.
(capital of Jamaica)
'load for a monarch?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'load' could be 'ton' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'ton' is present in the answer.
'monarch?' could be 'king' (king is a kind of monarch) and 'king' is found in the answer.
A single letter 's' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for kingston that I've seen before include "Royal borough on river Thames" , "Capital of Jamaica" , "island capital" , "Jamaican capital" .)
