Crossword Genius

Cared about getting a row of shops (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

arcade

'shops' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'cared about getting a row' is the wordplay.
'about' becomes 'a' (abbreviation in Chambers).
'getting' says to put letters next to each other.
'a row' indicates an anagram.
'cared'+'a'='careda'
'careda' with letters rearranged gives 'ARCADE'.

'of' is the link.

(Other definitions for arcade that I've seen before include "Covered way with shops on either side" , "Covered passage of e.g. shops" , "area of gaming" , "Arched passageway between shops" , "covered avenue of shops" .)

I've seen this clue in The Mirror.
