Crossword Genius

Carrying too much weight and imperious (11)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

overbearing

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'imperious' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'carrying too much weight' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'carrying' could be 'bearing' (bearing is a kind of carrying) and 'bearing' is found within the answer.
'too much' could be 'over' (I've seen this before) and 'over' is located in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'and' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for overbearing that I've seen before include "Officious" , "Imperious" , "Forceful in character" , "High-handed" , "Unpleasantly dominating" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
