Crossword Genius

Carry's partner from the foreign town on rocky site (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cashel

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'carry's partner' is the definition.
I know nothing about this answer so I can't judge whether this works.

'the foreign town on rocky site' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'the foreign' could be 'el' and 'el' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'cash' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'from' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cashel that I've seen before include "Historic Rock in Tipperary near Cahir" , "Tipperary Rock holding ancient buildings" .)

I've seen this clue in the Irish Times (Crosaire) and the Irish Times.
