Crossword Genius

Cause anger as I sat down to dinner wearing mink (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

infuriate

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'cause anger' is the definition.
'infuriate' can be an answer for 'anger' (I've seen this before). I'm not certain of the 'cause' bit.

'i sat down to dinner wearing mink' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'i' could be 'a' and 'a' is found in the answer.
'wearing' could be 'in' (you are 'in' the clothes you're wearing) and 'in' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'as' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for infuriate that I've seen before include "incense" , "get very warm" , "anger" , "Make someone very angry" , "Enrage or exasperate" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
