Celestial phenomenon results from celestial object bearing a second ring (9)
I believe the answer is:
supermoon
'celestial phenomenon' is the definition.
(event in which the moon appears larger than normal)
'celestial object bearing a second ring' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'object' could be 'moon' (moon is a kind of object) and 'moon' is located in the answer.
'bearing' could be 's' and 's' is located in the answer.
'a' could be 'per' (eg 'one a day' means 'one per day') and 'per' is present in the answer.
A single letter 'u' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'results from' acts as a link.
I've seen this clue in The Independent.
