Change course, wanting to take Latin (7)
I believe the answer is:
deflect
'change course' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'to take latin' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'latin' could be 'l' and 'l' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'defect' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'wanting' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for deflect that I've seen before include "Turn aside from an intended course" , "Cause to go off course" , "Turn aside or deviate from course." , "Parry, turn aside" , "Change course" .)
