Charity holds on to rickety store for future generations (9)
I believe the answer is:
posterity
'future generations' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'charity holds on to rickety store' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'store' is 'oster' which is located in the answer.
'charity' could be 'pity' (pity can mean charitable behaviour) and 'pity' is found within the leftover letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'for' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for posterity that I've seen before include "Future generations" , "for people coming later" , "Succeeding generations" .)
