Crossword Genius

Charm space and sing (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

enchant

'charm' is the definition.
(I know that charm can be written as enchant)

'space and sing' is the wordplay.
'space' becomes 'en' (in printing, a space as wide as a letter 'n').
'and' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'sing' becomes 'chant' (chanting is a kind of singing).
'en'+'chant'='ENCHANT'

(Other definitions for enchant that I've seen before include "Bewitch, charm" , "Delight or bewitch" , "transport" , "Hypnotise" , "Beguile" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
