Ross

I believe the answer is:

ravine

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'deep narrow gorge' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'climber follows artist' is the wordplay.
'climber' becomes 'vine' (climbing plant).
'follows' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'artist' becomes 'RA' (Royal Academician, member of Royal Academy of Arts).
'vine' put after 'ra' is 'RAVINE'.

'down' is the link.
This may not be right. It may be part of another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for ravine that I've seen before include "Canyon" , "Deep narrow valley" , "Steep-sided gorge" , "Narrow, steep-sided valley" , "'Deep, steep valley (6)'" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
