Comes up against objection when giving coverage (5)
I believe the answer is:
abuts
'comes up against' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'objection when giving coverage' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'objection' could be 'but' (as in 'no ifs, no buts') and 'but' is found in the answer.
'when' could be 'as' (eg 'when I walked' means 'as I walked') and 'as' is found in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for abuts that I've seen before include "Of building, is next to" , "Lies adjacent to another" , "Touches, leans on" , "borders" , "Ends or leans against" .)
