Ross

I believe the answer is:

reinstatement

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'coming back' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both acts as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps you can see a link between them that I don't see?

'into the office to check a report' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'into' could be 'in' and 'in' is present in the answer.
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is found in the answer.
'a' is present in the answer.
'check' could be 'stem' (both can mean to control or stop) and 'stem' is located in the remaining letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for reinstatement that I've seen before include "Rehabilitation" , "Restoring" , "Restoration to a previous position" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
