Coming out and scowling at the fellow (9)
I believe the answer is:
flowering
'coming out' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'scowling at the fellow' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'at' could be 'in' (synonymous in some cases - eg at school, in school) and 'in' is found in the answer.
'fellow' could be 'f' (abbreviation - of a society etc.) and 'f' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'and' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for flowering that I've seen before include "Blooming" , "coming out" , "In bloom" .)
