Compensate for cancelled gig (6)
I believe the answer is:
offset
'compensate for' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'cancelled gig' is the wordplay.
'cancelled' becomes 'off' (similar in meaning).
'gig' becomes 'set' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'off'+'set'='OFFSET'
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for offset that I've seen before include "Amount by which something is out of line" , "Distance out of line" , "Counteract to compensate" , "Compensate(d) for" , "Compensate for - printing method" .)
