Complicated points and networks (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

complexes

'networks' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I don't understand how they can define each other.

'complicated points' is the wordplay.
'complicated' becomes 'complex' (similar in meaning).
'points' becomes 'Es' (two compass points).
'complex'+'es'='COMPLEXES'

'and' acts as a link.
