I believe the answer is:

(I've seen this in another clue)
'i see after turning up axes' is the wordplay.
'i see' becomes 'ah' (exclamation used to indicate understanding).
'after turning up' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'axes' becomes 'zy' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'ah' back-to-front is 'ha'.
'ha'+'zy'='HAZY'
