Crossword Genius

Could Dragnet be treated this casually? (5,3,7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

taken for granted

'treated this casually?' is the definition.
The definition suggests a singular noun but the answer is not.

'could dragnet be' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'dragnet' is 'granted' which is located in the answer.
'be' could be 'take' (taking is a kind of being) and 'take' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

(Another definition for taken for granted that I've seen is " valued too lightly".)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
