Counting everything and going fifty-fifty with the girl over (2,3)
I believe the answer is:
in all
'counting everything' is the definition.
(as in 'there were 10 in all')
'fifty with the girl over' is the wordplay.
'fifty' becomes 'L' (Roman numeral).
'with' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'the girl' becomes 'lani' ().
'over' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'l'+'lani'='llani'
'llani' backwards is 'IN ALL'.
'and going fifty' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for in all that I've seen before include "Summarising" , "In total" , "Taking everything into account" , "Taken together" , "Altogether" .)
