Country is gracious when government is thrown out (5)
I believe the answer is:
benin
'country' is the definition.
(I know that Benin is a country)
'is gracious when government is thrown out' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'is' could be 'be' and 'be' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'nin' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for benin that I've seen before include "City formerly known as Dahomey" , "Country W. of Nigeria" , "Old West African kingdom from which 'bronze' sculptures were looted by the British in 1897" , "West African republic" , "East African state" .)
