Country name for a historic barbarian (7)
I believe the answer is:
hungary
'country' is the definition.
(I know that Hungary is a country)
'name for a historic barbarian' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'name' could be 'gar' and 'gar' is found within the answer.
'barbarian' could be 'hun' (as in Atilla the Hun) and 'hun' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'y' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for hungary that I've seen before include "part of Europe" , "It's capital is Budapest" , "One member of NATO" , "Country bordered by Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria" , "country in Europe" .)
