County ground showing initial score (7)
I believe the answer is:
rutland
'county' is the definition.
(I know that Rutland is a historic county of England)
'ground showing initial score' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'ground' could be 'land' (synonyms) and 'land' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'rut' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
(Other definitions for rutland that I've seen before include "England's smallest county" , "Smallest of the historical English counties" , "Oakham area" , "East Midlands county" , "Smallest English county" .)
