Creature camouflaged in ball turned over, not dead (7)
I believe the answer is:
echidna
'creature' is the definition.
(echidna is a kind of animal)
'camouflaged in ball turned over not dead' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'camouflaged' could be 'hid' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'hid' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
(Other definitions for echidna that I've seen before include "Such a beast" , "Toothless type" , "One preying on the workers" , "Australian creature" , "Spiny Aus. mammal" .)
