Creep sending bill back for present (5)
I believe the answer is:
today
'present' is the definition.
(I know that today is a type of present)
'creep sending bill back for' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'for' could be 'to' (eg both can mean 'in the opinion of') and 'to' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'day' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for today that I've seen before include "The present time or age" , "Yesterday's tomorrow" , "Modern times" , "Presently" , "Nowadays" .)
