Crime from girl of large proportions? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bigamy

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'crime' is the definition.
(I know that bigamy is a type of crime)

'girl of large proportions?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'girl' could be 'amy' and 'amy' is found in the answer.
'large' could be 'big' (synonyms) and 'big' is found within the answer.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'from' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for bigamy that I've seen before include "Crime of marrying twice" , "Matrimonial crime" , "crime, perhaps" , "Crime involving marriage(s)" , "Crime of marrying when already legally wed" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
