Criticised, on a stick (8)
I believe the answer is:
skewered
'criticised' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I can't see how they can define each other.
'on a stick' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'on' could be 're' ('on' can be mean 'with reference to') and 're' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'skewed' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for skewered that I've seen before include "Pierced through with wooden or metal spike" , "Fastened together by a pin" , "Pierced by metal spike, like meat" , "Pierced through with meat pin" , "Run through" .)
