Crop: one planted in network? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

maize

'crop' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'one planted in network?' is the wordplay.
'one' becomes 'i' (Roman numeral).
'planted in' indicates putting letters inside.
'network?' becomes 'maze' (I have seen 'Confusing network ' mean 'maze' so perhaps 'network' could also mean 'maze').
'i' going inside 'maze' is 'MAIZE'.

(Other definitions for maize that I've seen before include "Type of corn" , "Corn-cob cereal" , "Tall cereal plant bearing grain on large pods" , "one could make a meal of it" , "Farm crop" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
