Cross left out as show of irony? (6)
I believe the answer is:
satire
'irony?' is the definition.
(I know that irony can be written as satire)
'cross left out as show' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'cross' could be 't' (shape) and 't' is found in the answer.
'show' could be 'air' (both can mean broadcast) and 'air' is found in the remaining letters.
The remaining letters 'se' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'of' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for satire that I've seen before include "Parody, spoof" , "Political humour" , "It holds up follies and vices of the powerful to ridicule" , "burlesque" , "Biting humour exposing vice, folly etc." .)
