Cryptic clue for wolf – or pheasant, perhaps (8)
I believe the answer is:
wildfowl
'pheasant perhaps' is the definition.
(I know that pheasant is a type of wildfowl)
'cryptic clue for wolf' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'wolf' is 'fowl' which is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'wild' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'or' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for wildfowl that I've seen before include "sport for guns?" , "Ducks etc" , "Game birds" , "Grouse and pheasant, for instance" .)
