Cut off wickedness? I dither pathetically about it (10)

I believe the answer is:
disinherit
'cut off' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'wickedness? i dither pathetically about it' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'wickedness?' could be 'sin' (synonyms) and 'sin' is found in the answer.
'i' is found in the answer.
an anagram of 'dither' is 'dherit' which is present in the left over letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for disinherit that I've seen before include "Write out of a will" , "Cut off as with a shilling" , "Lanarkshire town" , "Remove as heir" .)
