Damp and sticky like shellfish? (6)
I believe the answer is:
clammy
'damp and sticky' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'like shellfish?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'like' could be 'y' (similar in meaning) and 'y' is found in the answer.
'shellfish?' could be 'clam' (clam is a kind of shellfish) and 'clam' is found in the answer.
A single letter 'm' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for clammy that I've seen before include "(Of weather) sticky" , "Unpleasantly sticky and moist" , "Moist and adhesive" , "Stewing" , "Cold and damp" .)
