Dash from one figure to another! (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

minus

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'another' is the definition.
Both the answer and definition are adjectives. Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'dash from one figure' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'from' could be 'in' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'in' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'mus' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'to' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for minus that I've seen before include "Lacking; negative" , "(Of temperature) below zero" , "deficiency" , "Negative sign - negative thing" , "Negative arithmetic operation" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
