Ross

I believe the answer is:

drainer

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'daughter' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are singular nouns.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'german man stand by sink after washing' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'german' could be 'd' (abbreviation for Deutschland ie Germany) and 'd' is found in the answer.
'man' could be 'rainer' and 'rainer' is found within the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'and' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for drainer that I've seen before include "it will be next to sink" , "drying device" , "Rack for wet crockery" , "one drying out?" , "Rack by a sink for letting crockery dry" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
