Crossword Genius

Dawn wants boy out of bed, by the sound of it? (3-2)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

sun-up

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'dawn' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'boy out of bed by the sound of it?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'out of bed' could be 'up' (synonyms) and 'up' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'sun' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'wants' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for sun-up that I've seen is " Dawn".)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
