Death's edge about to slice one looking stunned (4,6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

grim reaper

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'death's' is the definition.
(grim reaper is a kind of death)

'edge about to slice one looking stunned' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'edge' could be 'rim' (rim is a kind of edge) and 'rim' is found within the answer.
'about' could be 'rea' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'rea' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for grim reaper that I've seen before include "Death personified as Old Father Time" , "Name for death" , "which represents curtains?" , "Death in person" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
