Crossword Genius

Delivery coming down from Scottish town, that is leaving before work (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

airdrop

'delivery coming down' is the definition.
(delivery from above)

'scottish town that is leaving before work' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'work' could be 'op' (common abbreviation for 'opus') and 'op' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'from' is the link.

(Other definitions for airdrop that I've seen before include "Emergency delivery" , "Road rip (anag.)" , "Delivery of supplies by parachute" , "supplies sent down" , "Parachuting of supplies" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
