Crossword Genius

Dependent on reversing trouble in lease (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

reliant

'dependent' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'reversing trouble in lease' is the wordplay.
'reversing' says the letters should be written backwards.
'trouble' becomes 'ail' (synonyms).
'in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'lease' becomes 'rent' (synonyms).
'ail' reversed gives 'lia'.
'lia' placed into 'rent' is 'RELIANT'.

'on' is the link.

(Other definitions for reliant that I've seen before include "in need of assistance" , "Depending (on) - a three-wheeled car" , "Depending (on something)" , "Trusting" , "Banking" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
