Crossword Genius

Deposited face-up? (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

laid

'deposited' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'face-up?' is the wordplay.
'face' becomes 'dial' (face of a clock).
'up?' is a reversal indicator (I've seen 'upped' mean this (in down clue, made to go up)).
'dial' back-to-front is 'LAID'.

(Other definitions for laid that I've seen before include "Produced eggs" , "Placed horizontally on a surface" , "spread on a surface" , "Deposited" , "tables may be?" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
