Depressed, having no liquor left? (3,2,7)
I believe the answer is:
out of spirits
'depressed' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'no liquor left?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'no' could be 'o' (resembles 0 - 'no' can mean 'zero') and 'o' is found in the answer.
'liquor' could be 'spirits' (synonyms) and 'spirits' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'having' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for out of spirits that I've seen before include "Feeling depressed" , "without whisky or rum" .)
