Ross

I believe the answer is:

seagoing

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'radio' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are adjectives, I can't understand how one could define the other.

'describes boat they spot leaving on' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'boat' could be 'sea' (sea boat is a kind of boat) and 'sea' is found within the answer.
'leaving' could be 'going' (synonyms) and 'going' is found in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'the' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for seagoing that I've seen before include "being prepared to sail" , "Suitable for ocean journeys" , "Five [NAUTICAL]" , "Suitable for ocean voyages" , "Suitable for marine voyages" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
