Devoid of mercy, like an incomplete Bible? (8)
I believe the answer is:
ruthless
'devoid' is the definition.
(I have seen 'devoid of compassion' mean 'ruthless' so perhaps 'devoid' could also mean 'ruthless')
'mercy like an incomplete bible?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'mercy' could be 'ruth' (as opposed to ruthlessness) and 'ruth' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'less' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'of' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for ruthless that I've seen before include "Hustlers can be without mercy" , "Without pity or compassion" , "Lacking pity or mercy" , "hard" , "Showing no mercy" .)
