Did well at the Olympics, say, but interfered (7)
I believe the answer is:
meddled
'interfered' is the definition.
(meddling is a kind of interfering)
'did well at the olympics say' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'did' could be 'led' (leading is a kind of doing) and 'led' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'but' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for meddled that I've seen before include "Got involved" , "Interfered in other people's affairs" , "Tampered" .)
