Direction of leading attraction from the east? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

upward

'direction' is the definition.
(in an upward direction)

'leading attraction from the east?' is the wordplay.
'leading' becomes 'up' (up can mean leading in a game).
'attraction' becomes 'draw' (draw can mean something that attracts people).
'from the east?' is a reversal indicator (on a map from right to left).
'draw' reversed gives 'ward'.
'up'+'ward'='UPWARD'

'of' is the link.

(Other definitions for upward that I've seen before include "Rising" , "Toward a highter place" , "Toward a higher place" , "Ascending" , "Moving towards what is higher" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
