I believe the answer is:

pea soup

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'dish' is the definition.
(pea soup is a kind of dish)

'a bit of the french bread dipped in ginger' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'a' is found in the answer.
'bit' could be 'sou' (I have seen 'A bit' mean 'sou' so perhaps 'bit' could also mean 'sou') and 'sou' is located in the answer.
'ginger' could be 'pep' (synonyms) and 'pep' is found within the leftover letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'with' is the link.
