Crossword Genius

Disinfect beds in same place, occasionally all over (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cleanse

'disinfect' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'beds in same place occasionally all over' is the wordplay.
'occasionally' means one should take alternating letters (letters taken at regular intervals or occasions).
'all over' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'beds'+'in'+'same'+'place'='bedsinsameplace'
The alternate letters of 'bedsinsameplace' are 'esnaelc'.
'esnaelc' in reverse letter order is 'CLEANSE'.

(Other definitions for cleanse that I've seen before include "Make free from dirt" , "Purge" , "carry out purification" , "subject to purification" , "Bathe" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
