Displayed —like free-range eggs? (4,3)
I believe the answer is:
laid out
'displayed' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I can't understand how one could define the other.
'free-range eggs?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'free' could be 'out' (I've seen this before) and 'out' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'laid' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'like' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for laid out that I've seen before include "Displayed; knocked senseless" , "Paid" , "Spent" , "boxer risks being this" , "arranged" .)
