Do — but with less relish? (3,3,7)
I believe the answer is:
cut the mustard
'do' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'with less relish?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'relish?' could be 'mustard' (I have seen 'Hot relish ' mean 'mustard' so perhaps 'relish' could also mean 'mustard') and 'mustard' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).
'but' is the link.
(Other definitions for cut the mustard that I've seen before include "do well enough" , "Make a favourable impression" , "Harvested brassica plant" , "should prove acceptable" , "met required standards" .)
