Doing without because working (8)
I believe the answer is:
forgoing
'doing without' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with ownership as well as being present participle verbs.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?
'because working' is the wordplay.
'because' becomes 'for' (I've seen this in another clue).
'working' becomes 'going' (working can mean going or activated).
'for'+'going'='FORGOING'
Can you help me to learn more?
(Another definition for forgoing that I've seen is " Giving up (something desirable)".)
