Crossword Genius

Don’t you get married, shortly husband will be up for something sticky (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

honeydew

'something sticky' is the definition.
(sweet and sticky substance)

'don't you get married shortly husband will be up' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'you' could be 'one' (I've seen this before) and 'one' is found in the answer.
'husband' could be 'h' and 'h' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'for' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for honeydew that I've seen before include "Sweet substance produced by aphids" , "Sweet stuff" , "Type of melon" , "Melon - Owen Hyde (anag)" , "Food supplied and eaten by 20s (and Kubla Khan?)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
