I believe the answer is:

catch up

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'draw' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both related to thinking as well as being verbs in their base form.
Maybe there's an association between them I don't understand?

'equal with guy beginning to hesitate in tournament' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'guy' could be 'cat' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'cat' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for catch up that I've seen before include "Prepare to overtake" , "Do things which should have been done earlier" , "Regain equality" , "Lag no longer" , "Backward student must try to do this" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
