Crossword Genius

Draw without attire, spicing up printed works (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

literature

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'works' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'draw without attire spicing up printed' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'attire' is 'iterat' which is present in the answer.
'draw' could be 'lure' (both can mean to attract or entice) and 'lure' is present in the leftover letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for literature that I've seen before include "writer's work" , "Written material" , "promotional material" , "Written works of artistic merit" , "What author writes" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
